Małgorzata Łukianow, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw. Her research lies at the intersection of memory studies, cultural sociology, and economic anthropology, examining displacement, difficult heritage, postsocialist transformations, and the social consequences of crisis. Her work examines how individuals, families, institutions, and local communities negotiate interpretations of the past, and how these interpretations shape belonging, recognition, and exclusion. Combining ethnography, oral history, biographical interviews, and archival research, she approaches remembering as a situated practice embedded in social relationships and unequal distributions of authority.

She is the author of Memory in Postmigration Communities: Field of Memory (Routledge, 2026). Focusing on Poland’s western and northern territories, the book develops a relational framework for analysing how overlapping memories coexist, compete, and change within communities shaped by postwar population transfers. She also co-edited No Neighbors’ Lands in Postwar Europe: Vanishing ‘Others’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) and Pamiętniki Pandemii (Krytyka Polityczna, 2022).
